Solo Flamenco was founded in 1999 by Laurena Marrone, a renowned dancer who specifically focused on the unique Flamenco style of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, where she made her home in the late 90's. Considered one of the most competent improvisational dancers in the US, Laurena is known for her ability to express the anguish and power of Cante Flamenco through movement, unhindered by choreography or the need for excessive rehearsal. In 2008, Laurena left the company in the capable hands of Mitsue and Chris Johnson, who have promised to carry on the tradition and foundation Laurena so lovingly nurtured.
It is with this care and devotion to Flamenco that this company continues to teach new students of all interests and abilities. Our students stand out in the Flamenco community for their talent, expressiveness and devotion to the Solo Flamenco Arts Academy. If you don’t believe us, ask some of them for yourselves!
